The
1975 action adventure flick which rewrote entire Indian records is
sholay. Produced by GP Sippy and directed by Ramesh Sippy starring
Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri
and Amjad Khan, the film became a box office phenomenon running 286
weeks straight in a Mumbai theatre. Latest buzz doing rounds in B-town
circles is sholay 3D version will be released on August 15 of this year.
Shaan Uttam Singh,
grandson of GP Sippy (Copyright owners of movie) confirmed the project
as almost complete with release date as August 15. As the film is a
classic, people will love to watch it with technological augmentation,
he said. Due to legal hassles associated with in Sippy family, the
process was delayed but as per the idea of copyright owners, 3D version
has become a possibility. When sholay was first screened on DD National,
it registered a TRP of 65, the highest for any movie showcased on
Indian television. These days, TRP of 5 or 6 is treated as an
achievement.
